PGE EJ 1, the Company responsible for execution of the investment in the first Polish NPP, will perform full site characterisation work in two sites in the Pomeranian voivoideship: „Lubiatowo-Kopalino” (Choczewo commune, Słajszewo and Jackowo villages) and „Żarnowiec” (Krokowa and Gniewino communes).
Decision by the Company to refrain from conducting site characterisation of the „Gąski” site has been taken upon conclusion of analyses in the Pomeranian Voivoideship. These analyses encompassed preliminary habitat inventory and hydrogeological analyses that confirmed that it is the two sites, namely „Lubiatowo – Kopalino” and „Żarnowiec”, that best meet the NPP siting requirements.
For this reason, in January 2016 the Company applied to the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) for the conduct of an EIA procedurę for an NPP built in the two sites only („Lubiatowo – Kopalino” and „Żarnowiec”). On May 25, 2016 the Director General for Environmental Protection issued a decision pertaining to the scope of the environmental impact assessment report to be developed for the sites that PGE EJ1 identified as potential locations of the first Polish NPP. This act translates into the Company’s withdrawal from performing site characterization of the “Gąski” location (Mielno commune). On June 24th, 2016 PGE EJ1 the Company applied to the Governor of the West Pomeranian Voivoideship to approve the expiry of the decision on identification of the site for investment in a nuclear facility, namely a nuclear power plant, for the “Gąski” location.
