PGE EJ 1, the company set up to build the first Polish nuclear power plant, has submitted an application to the General Director for Environmental Protection for issuing a Decision on Environmental Conditions and and an application for specifying the scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report. The Company added the Project Information Sheet as an attachment to the application. The documents submitted constitute a basis for initiating the environmental impact assessment procedure which is prerequisite in the process of the selection of a safe site for the NPP
As the entity responsible for preparing the investment process of the construction of the nuclear power plant, PGE EJ1 is obliged to examine the impact of the NPP’s construction and maintenance on the natural environment and human health. The purpose of the research and analysis thus carried out is to ensure the maximum safety of the plant’s operation.
The Project Information Sheet (PIS) is the first official document to present the key assumptions of the planned investment in a comprehensive way. On the basis of that document, after obtaining the opinions of the Voivodship Sanitary Inspector and Maritime Office, and also, after international consultations with countries interested in participating in transboundary environmental impact assessments, the General Director for Environmental Protection will issue a decision on the scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report indicating, inter alia, the methodology to be followed in future environmental surveys and analyses.
