PEJ and the War Studies University join forces in the topic of capacity building for the nuclear energy sector

13.05.2026
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) and the War Studies University (ASzWoj) signed a cooperation agreement with the main objective to prepare highly qualified personnel and develop the competencies necessary for the execution of the nuclear power plant program in Poland.

The Polish Nuclear Power Program is a project of fundamental importance to national safety, both in the direct sense – electricity production – and in its broader, strategic sense. Its execution requires not only proven technologies, but above all, a highly qualified workforce and a strong team of experts. The cooperation with the War Studies University, an institution with unique experience in the area of safety and management, will facilitate the preparation of future professionals for work in the nuclear industry, and building national competences necessary to ensure the resilience and reliability of key infrastructure essential to the smooth functioning of the country.

The agreement provides for joint activities in areas related to the development, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants, as well as the functioning of nuclear regulatory oversight regarding the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The parties will jointly identify the industry’s personnel needs, including the demand for experts with specific qualifications at various stages of the project execution. Another crucial aspect of this cooperation will be setting directions for the development of education, including the creation of new or modification of existing study programs at a leading civil-military university, so that they meet the needs of Poland’s growing nuclear energy sector.

By signing this cooperation agreement, we are addressing public expectations regarding the safety of Poland’s first nuclear power plant. We want to contribute to ensuring that its construction, operation, and maintenance are carried out in accordance with the highest safety standards. Therefore, together with PEJ, we intend to develop an academic profile of our future graduate who will be seeking employment in the nuclear sector in its broadest meaning. The War Studies University, in collaboration with Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, is also developing bachelor and master studies programs, as well as training sessions and courses, that will make us feel safe about the future of this sector. This is part of building the resilience of the modern state, which is the foundation of effective deterrence.

The partnership will also include academic and educational activities, such as conducting joint research, organizing conferences and seminars, as well as organizing internship and apprenticeship programs for the students of the University.

The collaboration with the War Studies University is another step in PEJ’s efforts to build a broad network of partnerships with leading national research and expert institutions. These initiatives support the development of expertise, research infrastructure, and national capabilities in the field of nuclear power, which is crucial for ensuring Poland’s long-term energy security.
