PEJ and the Pomerania Development Agency join efforts to increase participation of Pomeranian companies in the nuclear power plant project

02.06.2025

On 30 May, in Gdańsk, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) and the Pomerania Development Agency signed a letter of intent on the cooperation to increase the participation of Pomeranian companies in the Poland’s first nuclear power plant project. It concerns the organization of educational, informational and promotional initiatives, as well as activities related to the preparation of accommodation for those working on the Lubiatowo-Kopalino nuclear power plant project, to mention a few.

The Pomerania Development Agency will be involved in building and supporting the participation of Polish companies in the supply chain for the nuclear power plant project in Pomerania. As part of its activities, it will be responsible for, among other aspects, providing local entrepreneurs with current information on the project, including information on tender procedures conducted both by PEJ and the Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium, and by entities implementing key undertakings associated with the project, namely the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, the Maritime Office in Gdynia, and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE). To this end, the Pomerania Development Agency will coordinate and organize a series of information meetings for entrepreneurs from the region, while ensuring the participation of experts in the field of tender procedures and requirements for potential suppliers and subcontractors of the nuclear project.

Pomerania's driving force will not only be the energy itself that will flow from Poland's first nuclear power plant, but also the local workers and entrepreneurs who will play an important role in the execution of this key investment project. Cooperation with the Pomerania Development Agency is the next stage of our cooperation with Pomeranian business – we are making it easier for entrepreneurs to become involved in the construction work, which will have a positive impact on the condition of these companies, and at the same time will be a boost for the Pomeranian economy, both in the short and long term.

As part of its cooperation with PEJ, the Pomerania Development Agency will also join in the work related to analyzing the potential of local accommodation in Pomerania, which can be used at all stages of the nuclear project.

Our goal is to include as many Polish and Pomeranian companies as possible in the supply chains during the broader implementation of the investment project. It is also very important to secure adequate housing facilities for the workers involved in the construction of the power plant. At the peak of the project, about 10,000 people will be working on the construction site

The Pomerania Development Agency will also analyze investment areas in the vicinity of the future nuclear power plant to identify new locations for construction-related investment projects. The agency will also act as an intermediary in establishing relationships between local companies and the public administration and foreign investors working with the Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium.
