A major step in the nuclear project: PGE EJ 1 sp. z o.o. has selected the Site Characterization Contractor

PGE EJ 1 sp. z o.o. has awarded, in a public tender negotiations procedure with announcement, the site characterization and licensing/permitting services contract for the PGE EJ1 Sp.z o.o.’s first Polish nuclear power plant development program with an installed capacity of approximately 3000 MWe.

The Contractor selected in the procedure is a consortium composed of: WorleyParsons Nuclear Services JSC, WorleyParsons International Inc., WorleyParsons Group Inc. The awarded contract is worth PLN 252 mln.

The selection of the site characterization contractor is another step forward in the project, which I am sure will further contribute to the credibility of the Polish nuclear program – says Aleksander Grad, President of PGE EJ 1 sp. z o.o. The decision is critical to further stages of the project. The characterization activities carried out by the selected Contractor will inform one of the most significant decisions, that is the selection of the final site for Poland’s first NPP – adds Mr. Grad.

The site and environmental surveys will last over two years and cover a variety of elements, from  geological conditions and natural environment to current land development and questions of logistics and available  infrastructure. Once a contract with the Contractor is signed, PGE EJ 1 will develop a detailed scope and schedule of works.

Recently the company was responsible for the selection of the site for a future nuclear power plant and environmental survey in the Turkish project (Akkuyu nuclear power plant).
