Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe applies for a location decision for Poland’s first nuclear power plant

On 22 August 2023 Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) submitted an application to the Head of Pomorskie Voivodeship for issuing a location decision for Poland’s first nuclear power plant, to be built in Pomerania, in Choczewo commune. It is one the key milestones in the administrative process leading to the start of construction of a nuclear facility.
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe will fund preparation of a design for a new access road to the beach in the Choczewo commune

On 18 August 2023, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe concluded an agreement with the office of the Choczewo commune to finance the design documentation for a new access road to the beach from Słajszewo in the Choczewo commune. The project of a new road is related to the planned construction of a nuclear power plant in this region.

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe and Warsaw University of Technology signed a cooperation agreement to train personnel for the nuclear sector

Exchange of experience, development of joint scholarship programs and internships for the best students are the main areas of future cooperation between Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) and the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). The cooperation agreement between PEJ and WUT was signed on 7 August 2023 at the main building of the university.
Under the “Multiannual Program" adopted by the Government of the Republic of Poland, the Maritime Office in Gdynia (UMG) will build a Marine Off-loading Facility next to the site of the first nuclear power plant in Poland

In June, the Government of the Republic of Poland adopted the Multiannual Program, which ensures funding for key investment projects in Pomerania associated with the strategic energy projects. The Program funds will be used to build a new railway line, a new national road and a Marine Off-loading Facility (MOLF). An agreement defining the principles of cooperation on the construction of this structure was signed on 19 July 2023 by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe and the Maritime Office in Gdynia.
Consultations with countries participating in the transboundary procedure for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pomerania have been completed

The General Director for Environmental Protection, who is in charge of the procedure, announced the end of the stage of transboundary consultations, which actively engaged experts of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe. Public consultations in the country are yet to be held as part of the environmental impact assessment procedure for the power plant.
The Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe company with a decision-in-principle for the first nuclear power plant in Poland

On 12 July the Ministry of Climate and Environment gave the green light for the first nuclear power plant, which will be built in Pomerania. Thus, the investment project executed by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe is the first nuclear project in Poland that obtained a decision-in-principle. It is a formal confirmation that the company’s investment project is in line with the public interest and the policies pursued by the state, including energy policy.

National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) confirms correctness of the scope of verification of safety analyses for the nuclear power plant in Pomerania

The President of the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) issued a general opinion on safety analyses for the nuclear power plant in Pomerania. This is the first opinion of this kind in Poland in the area of nuclear safety. The scope of the planned independent verification of safety analyses, as presented in the application submitted by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), was found to be correct. This is another step toward obtaining all the administrative approvals required by law for the country’s first large-scale nuclear power plant.
Consortium Westinghouse-Bechtel to build the first nuclear power plant in Poland

Westinghouse and Bechtel, the world’s leading nuclear power sector companies, will form a consortium to design and build the nuclear power plant in Pomerania. The agreement that lays down the main principles of cooperation between PEJ and the consortium of American companies was signed on 25 May 2023 in Warsaw.
