PEJ will ensure independent verification of the safety analyses for the first nuclear power plant in Poland

18.11.2024

PEJ has signed a contract with the consortium of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), Nuclear and Industrial Engineering (N.IN.E.) and NucAdvisor to conduct an independent verification of safety analyses. It is an important step in the process of obtaining the construction license for the Lubiatowo-Kopalino nuclear power plant from the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA).

‘The area of nuclear safety is crucial in each nuclear project. The independent verification of the security analyses, which will be performed by the consortium, is important for the efficient execution of the project. Conducting such a verification is also one of the actions recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency in the process of building nuclear power plants,’ explains PEJ’s Chief Nuclear Officer, Bartosz Sośnik.

The scope of the contract includes, most importantly, the assessment of the preliminary safety analysis report and the verification of safety analyses. These documents are legally required attachments to the application for issuing the Construction License for the nuclear power plant submitted to the PAA President. Both deterministic and probabilistic analyses will be assessed. The performance of this part of the contract is scheduled for the upcoming months. The entire agreement, however, has been signed for seven years, taking also into account the possibility of conducting other analyses in the fields of nuclear safety, emergency planning, radiological protection and the radiation impact of the nuclear power plant on its surroundings, including the environment.
