PEJ: Westinghouse places first orders related to the nuclear power plant in Pomerania with Polish suppliers
‘The project to build the first Polish nuclear power plant is not only a project supporting the state energy security and accelerating the country’s energy transition, but also a unique development opportunity for Poland’s economy, especially for the region of Pomerania. Our goal is to increase the number of Polish companies participating in the supply chain for our project. I am pleased that our American partners have considered our recommendation to maximize the amount of local content it uses,’ said Piotr Piela, Vice-President of PEJ.
Suppliers receiving purchase orders included: Mostostal Kielce, Mostostal Kraków, ZKS Ferrum, Famak S.A. Kluczbork, and Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic sp. z o.o. holding company including Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia S.A. and Baltic Operator sp. z o.o. A purchase order with Mostostal Siedlce, which belongs to Grupa Kapitałowa Polimex Mostostal holding company, is anticipated to be placed shortly. The scope of the orders supports the suppliers to meet quality assurance standards, including the implementation of a nuclear safety culture, the preparation of engineering documentation for mockup manufacturing and, potentially, the production of an AP1000 mockup in order to gain relevant experience. In addition to supporting the Polish AP1000 project, these orders open up opportunities for these suppliers to support projects in Europe and beyond. The downselection process, concluded in April 2024, was conducted in a transparent and competitive manner, considering requirements of quality assurance applicable to nuclear island equipment. This is a part of the process of preparation for the execution phase of the project in Lubiatowo-Kopalino.
‘Westinghouse is committed to strengthening Poland’s highly experienced supply chain to support this visionary nuclear power plant project as well as others in Europe and around the world,’ said Dan Lipman, President of Westinghouse Energy Systems. ‘We appreciate the close collaboration with these suppliers, which will drive more than 100 billion zloty of economic impact in Poland and create thousands of jobs during construction and the many decades of operation to come.’
The consortium of experienced Westinghouse and Bechtel companies is responsible for the execution of the investment project led by PEJ. Westinghouse increases cooperation with Polish entities to promote local content in the preparation and subsequent construction of the nuclear power plant to be built in Pomerania.
