PEJ concluded the contract for the construction of the technical road to the MOLF
During the first phase of use, access to the technical road to the MOLF will be limited, as it will serve for transporting oversized cargo to the power plant construction site. Once it is built, the road can be reclassified to a public road.
"The construction of this road is one of many preparatory activities for the construction of the power plant. Such oversized cargoes as a steam generator, pressure vessel or other modular parts will reach Poland by sea, and the technical road we have just contracted will be the last stretch of their route to the construction site. This solution will allow us to reduce the pressure on local and regional roads," explained PEJ’s President Leszek Juchniewicz.
The nearly kilometer-long technical road, connecting the MOLF with the construction site of the Choczewo power plant, will have a 15-meter-wide roadway. Additional one-meter concrete roadsides and aggregate roadsides will be built along the road. The projects will be conducted in line with environmental requirements.
"The construction of the technical road to a newly designed nuclear power plant in the Choczewo commune is an important undertaking for us, which is part of the strategy to support the development of energy infrastructure in Poland. The execution of this investment project will not only provide efficient logistic support for the construction of the power plant, but will also contribute to the development of local road infrastructure. We are proud to participate in such an important project that will enhance the country's energy security," says Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA.
According to the contract, Budimex will obtain a decision on environmental conditions and a location decision within a year. The design documentation for the technical road will be ready in the first quarter of 2026, and after exercising the right of option, the contractor will be able to start construction work, which is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.
In August 2024 the Maritime Office in Gdynia concluded the contract for the design of the MOLF with the consortium of the companies WUPROHYD and INGEO – the currently undertaken cooperation between PEJ and Budimex is another element of preparation to include the seaway in the process of constructing the first Polish nuclear power plant.
